La Piscine / Swimming Pool
La Piscine / Swimming Pool

Acrylic & India ink on cupro silk, 2025
50” x 64”

Selected for ‘Transforming Traditions: Art and Folklore in 2025’ at Yavapai College Art Gallery (Oct 3 - Nov 7 2025).

This piece reflects my love of visual storytelling as a bridge between memory, place, and imagination. Silk, with its ties to my Kazakh heritage along the historic Silk Road, serves as both a physical canvas and a symbolic element that connects cultures through time. Hanging delicately like a tapestry, the silk surface adds to the sense of movement within the work. Folkloric patterns intertwine with marine motifs, while the diver—styled like a figure from a modern Olympic poster—introduces a contemporary presence, linking past and present.
