I think I’m clocking about 10-12 hours a day at the studio these days, which feels amazing. Some days when everything aches I take the bus, some days when I have the energy I’ll ride my bike. Sometimes I show up with no plan and end up making 25 new things. The most important thing is I keep showing up. Consistency is key.
And I’ve been posting pretty consistently on my TikTok, I think I’m getting the hang of it. It’s been so fun to connect with a whole new community, outside of my Instagram followers. I feel like my TikTok audience appreciate the work-in-progress more than the finished work, whereas Instagram feels a lot more curated almost like a polished portfolio page.
I’m not really a planner or a sketcher when it comes to my paintings, I sort of just go for it. But I end up painting over a lot of things which wastes a lot of paint, and I’m getting annoyed with how expensive paint is (!) so I’m switching gears this month and going back to experimenting with other mediums - pastels, textiles, pencil drawing etc. I finally have a pinboard where I’m able to pin all my scraps and ideas. The studio feels more complete with a visual moodboard.
Some things I’m looking forward to this month:
My workshop with the Lesbian Culture Club is happening this Wednesday!
Visiting some new art galleries for First Thursday.
Hosting a clothing swap in the studio.
Chatting about a couple of new art commissions - fingers crossed!
Pride month and summer energy is STRONG in Portland right now, lots happening.
